This week we have been asked to discuss our craft space, my little piece of heaven!
It’s not much, it’s a tiny corner of my bedroom. It’s an odd little space that for a long time was used for storage. When I was pregnant with Scarlett, it was the area I kept the baby bits. When born, it was where I kept a railing with her clothes and a nursing chair.
Once she moved out of our bedroom, the space became a storage area again, the nursing chair a place for clothes. This drove me up the wall! I can’t stand corners that accumulate stuff, unorganised and forgotten about.
I started to eye up the space and realised I could fit our small, unused desk in this area. I had two things that weren’t working and I could put them together to work really well. This happened around September 2015, I hadn’t realised it had been that long!
My little space is still going strong! I’ve decorated it many times. I try to get it fitting with the time of year, at the moment I have bright quote artwork on the wall and hand made cards from the Children. I also love decorating for Autumn, Halloween and Christmas.
The area itself has transformed over and over. I’m forever on the hunt for storage and making it look the way I want it to. It’s starting to get there.
I wasn’t really sure how to write this, at the time of writing my desk is a mess as I’m right in the middle of creating a new kit. I’m hoping I can tidy it a little bit and get some pictures **edit, if there are pictures, then I managed to tidy, to an extent anyway!**
So on the far left I have a messy cork board with multiple bits and pieces I’ve collected over time. Invitations, lanyards from events, etsy shop codes.
I then have a stack of drawers from Tesco. They’re handy as they’re surprisingly big. They did come with clip things to attach them together but they somehow got lost on route home (probably still in the car!) so I’ve tied them together with ribbon.
These drawers contain…brace yourself…notebooks. There are three sets of drawers and two of them are full of notebooks. I am a notebook addict and I’m getting to a point where I need another drawer for more notebooks!!
The third drawer contains journal cards. It’s absolutely rammed full with journal cards! Another thing I am obsessed with.
On top of the drawers I have a box from Paperchase. This is open and contains Planners! I try to put planners that I’m currently using in here but I flit about so much that it doesn’t always go to plan.
Then we are onto my desk. It makes no sense but it’s mine and I love it. You have the usual planner items you expect to see, drawers with washi tapes, a small craft box with more journal cards, ephemera, ribbon, creative journal stuff.
I also have three pen pots. Pot one has novelty pens with crowns, cats, jewels etc on them. Pot two has standard ‘normal’ pens. Pot three has scissors, blades, pencils, rulers and a nail clipper (just because).
I then have unrelated planner stuff. I have two pictures nailed into the windowsill in front of me. I have various amounts of crystals, candles, mini statues…a gem stone tree. It somehow fits on the desk!
Lastly I have two plants. I have one which I have no idea of it’s name but it’s green and red, it’s vibrant, beautiful, my Children got it for me and I love it. The other is my lucky Bamboo!
Underneath the desk I have more drawers! There’s another large one that mainly holds stickers, laptop plugs and more journal cards.
This sits on top of even more drawers. These contain craft items. This is where you will find organised scrapbook papers, ephemera, journal cards (for the time of year), stamps and other bits such as paper clips, ribbons, buttons.
Next to the drawers I have a wicker basket. This contains all of my printing material (sticker paper, card, paper, acetate, vellum).
The desk itself has drawers but these don’t really hold craft items. The important stuff lives in these 😉
Lastly to the right of the corner in front of the desk, I have a planner rack! It’s a vegetable rack that holds my planners. It’s not ideal but for now it works. I hope at some point to get a slim bookcase unit that matches my desk colour.
I also have a bin in this space, it used to be a nappy bin!! It’s clean, honest!
Behind me is the over the stairs cupboard. This holds even more stuff! It’s organised but enough for me to want to show it! In here I have various magazines, my art bucket with all of my art tools, my silhouette is kept safe in here when not in use, my photography items and my bigger scrapbook papers.
I also have a printer but it’s huge so it lives on the other side of the bedroom. It’s wireless so it works fine for me.
So that’s my little space, I love it! I feel at home when I sit there 🙂
